We are The Old Schoolhouse, situated 10k from Fouriesburg in the beautiful Free State of South Africa, and being approximately 1/2 way between Johannesburg and Durban, roughly three hours from either by car, we make an ideal stopping off point for your journey.

Set in the sunny countryside with many scenic routes and stunning views around each corner.  The sights are worthwhile both in summer with the fields full of cosmos or in winter with the sight of snow on the nearby Maluti mountains.

The various routes may be used for driving, cycling or even hiking.  Like the famous Drakensberg mountains which has many hiking routes, see our local attractions and walking tours pages for more details.

We can offer accommodation in the form of a newly refurbished four bedroom house sleeping 10-12 people, which may be rented by the day, week or even the month.

The guest house has a large fully equipped kitchen, a cosy lounge with a fireplace for the winter months, 2 verandas, 1 conservatory style and one open veranda with braai facilities, spacious parking in large grounds.  Towels and bedding are provided. Meals are also available in the country tea garden at the main house.

The house is 45 kms from the artist community of Clarens and the Golden Gate National Park.  We are also close (25 kms) to the border of Lesotho and overlooked by the Maluti mountains, which are some of the highest on Southern Africa.

In addition,at the main house we have developed a tea garden area and can offer everything from breakfasts, snacks, light lunches,  tea/coffee and other drinks to full evening meals.  Click here for further details.
